The old adage that crime never pays is something that we all have drummed into us as kids, but for three teenagers in the US, this was a lesson that was learned the hard way when they tried to steal some narcotics recently.

The three broke into a home and thought they had hit the jackpot when they stole what they assumed was a sizeable quantity of cocaine. However, it turned out to be far less valuable than they might have imagined.

Police say that the trio, aged aged 17, 15 and 16, broke into a property in St Peters Missouri ast November and stole a number of different items, including an Xbox 360 games console and some prescription medication. However, it was the contents of a small wooden box that most interested them.

In the end, though, what they had thought was cocaine actually turned out to be the remains of the homeowner's recently cremated father. They later callously threw the ashes from the window of a car after discovering that they were not what they had thought.

And as if that was not enough to indicate just how dim-witted the criminals were, they were later apprehended by police after they put their loot to use at home. When the stolen Xbox 360 was used to play games online, police managed to trace the IP address that they were using and were able to arrest the criminals.

We reckon they might think twice before they think about stealing again. ADNFCR-2867-ID-801778945-ADNFCR
