Police get on their bikes for charity fundraiser

A team of officers from Thames Valley Police will don their cycling helmets for a bike rA team of officers from Thames Valley Police will don their cycling helmets for a bike ride challenge to France in a bid to raise money for the Help for Heroes charity.

Eight bobbies will make the journey to Paris – including detective inspectors and a sergeant – and they will be joined by the parents of students at the Abbey School in Reading, the Bicester Advertiser reports.

The challenge will begin at the Gherkin in the City of London and continue to Folkstone before the participants jump on the Eurostar to Calais.

Once they touch down across the channel they will spend three days riding down to the capital.

Inspector Emily Roberts, one of those who will be taking part, told the newspaper that the effort will be worthwhile in the end.

"The team and I are dedicated to making sure we cycle all the way to Paris for this good cause. Looking at the maps it is a long way and we appreciate all the support we have had so far in raising £3,791," she added.
