Holidays: Why they’re great to chat about on a date

Holidays have to be one of the best first date conversation topics. If you're looking for something to spark up a conversation with the person you've met up with for a drink, this is a good one to go with. Here are three great reasons why.

It's revealing

What someone does as a job doesn't always tell you everything about who they are. You'll get extra insight if you ask about leisure time. Holidays are a good example because you might well learn something important about the person sitting opposite you by listening to who they've been on holiday with recently, where they went and what they did.

It might turn out your date is really into high octane holiday fun like bungee jumping or they could prefer to read on a beach. Whatever their answers, they could well be revealing. That said, remember not to read too much into every answer. Just because someone did something adventurous on their last holiday, for example, doesn't mean that's all there is to them!

It's enjoyable

Everyone loves a holiday, so they're are a great way to talk about something that's generally fun for anyone to chat about. Even if someone hasn't been on one recently, you can ask them about what their dream trip would be – a great way to see what their travel aspirations are! Is your date a British beach holiday man or would he prefer to be taking a trek in East Asia?

It's romantic

It can be fun to talk about ideal romantic breaks if the atmosphere is right. Don't come across as too intense, but if you jokingly ask your date where they would take you for a weekend away, the answer could help him develop his rapport with you. Maybe he'll impress you with talk of Paris or come up with a sweet, low-key destination that will help win your heart.
