The success of one man when it comes to fundraising has been illustrated by him passing the £20,000 mark in the last year alone.

Businessman Tim Shapland from Warminster has organised a series of walks covering 100 miles that have been used to generate donations for military charity Combat Stress, reports This is Wiltshire.

He set up Project Longstride with the intention of making great use of the public footpaths that surround military training grounds in the UK.

Mr Shapland said: "It is staggering that we have managed to raise £20,000. I initially said I wanted to raise £10,000 as it was a figure that would get headlines, but I didn't know how I would get that."

Most of the walks took place between May and September, although there was a final winter hike in December.

He added that as well as the chance to raise money and get some good exercise, those who took part enjoyed plenty of cultural history and great scenery along the way.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801692350-ADNFCR
