Single soldiers who use online dating services to find the partner of their dreams may be more likely to enjoy matrimonial bliss than couples who meet in bars and other social settings, a new study has revealed.
Undertaken by Chadwick Martin Bailey, the research shows that one in six couples walking down the aisle met through an internet dating site. This is more than twice the number of people who met at offline social events.
Some 17 per cent of those questioned say they met their significant other on the web, in comparison to 11 per cent who met while on a night out.
Dr Jeff Gavin, a psychology lecturer at the University of Bath, recently told the Guardian that singletons may find that online partnerships are more intimate than those formed in a face-to-face setting.
"We also tend to ask more questions online – and give more intimate answers – than when communicating face-to-face," he said.
