Many people who are looking for love on the internet may never have realised just how important their political beliefs are in determining how successful they will be.
New research completed by Neil Malhotra, associate professor at Stanford Graduate School of Business, and Gregory Huber, political science professor at Yale University, showed support for certain parties can influence whether somebody is likely to impress somebody of the opposite sex.
It was found that people tend to be keen to start relationships with individuals who share support for their chosen party.
"After an election is over, we don't think about [politics], but in fact our political affiliations strongly affect other aspects of our lives, such as our romantic choices," Mr Malhotra stated.
Online daters must now decide whether to be open about their political persuasion and hope to attract a like-minded romantic, or avoid the subject in order to appeal to everybody.
