David Cameron backs Hero Ride

A nationwide cycling event to raise awareness for British soldiers has received the backing of the prime minister this week.

Help for Heroes' Hero Ride, which is taking place on May 20th 2013, got the support of David Cameron when he dropped into the charity's new £3 million Phoenix Centre sports facility in Wiltshire last Friday (November 16th).

He called on the public to show their appreciation for the armed forces by taking part in the event, which will see thousands of people set off on their bikes from all around the county to converge on central London.

Led by a cohort of wounded servicemen and women, they will lay a wreath at the Cenotaph before cycling past Buckingham Palace and forming on Horse Guards Parade.

Mr Cameron said he was delighted to launch the event, adding it will be a "fantastic sight" to see so many people cycling along Whitehall and the Mall.

He stated: "I never fail to be amazed by the sheer grit and determination of our forces and what they can achieve both on and off the battlefield … I, like the rest of the country, have nothing but admiration for them."
