Research ‘backs up’ instant connection theory

When people go on a first date, they generally know fairly quickly whether or not there is a spark.

Individuals are always looking for an instant connection and are prone to forming opinions in a very short period of time.

Now it seems there is a reason for this, as scientists from Trinity College Dublin have found there is a part of the brain that chooses who we will be romantically attracted to.

Some 78 women and 73 men, all heterosexual and single, took part in a speed dating event and some had their brains scanned beforehand.

In 63 per cent of cases, a person's initial, photo-based interest in meeting a person was backed up by their five-minute speed date.

It was also found that two parts of the brain's dorsomedial prefrontal cortex could predict if people were going to pursue any of the individuals they met during the event.
