The personal lives of some people have been affected as they are always on the go.
Whether it is because they are too busy, not confident or are coming out of a long-term relationship, single individuals are increasingly turning to the internet in an effort to find Mr or Mrs Right.
In order to capture this experience, Andy Milburn and Nia Williams have written a musical called Love Online about searching for the one using the web.
Speaking to the Reading Post, Mr Milburn said: "[It] is born from the fact that people have busy careers and there seem to be a lot of single people because they are too busy to meet in the usual way."
He added that as it is such a topical issue, he thought it would make a great story for the stage.
The show is now going to be performed by the Sainsbury Singers, a group well-known for performing high-quality musicals twice a year in Reading.
