Paralympics “a shining beacon” of how to overcome adversity

The role played by injured soldiers in the Paralympic Games closing ceremony demonstrates how it is possible to overcome adversity.

This is the opinion of former Royal Marine Lance Corporal Jon Flint, who rode a Segway as part of the Raising of the Flag segment dedicated to Britain's armed forces.

Speaking to the London Evening Standard, Mr Flint said the participation of around 30 ex-servicemen and women acted as "a shining beacon" of how it is possible to recover from setbacks.

He added the exploits of soldiers for the Paralympics GB team will hopefully inspire plenty of people.

Over one billion tuned in to the closing ceremony and they got to see athletes such as Jon-Allan Butterworth, Sam Bowen and Derek Derenalagi, who were all injured while serving their country.

Lance Corporal Mike Goody said: "It's brilliant that we were involved and they asked Help for Heroes to take part."
