People should be careful not to exaggerate on an online dating profile.
This is according to advice from Laurie Davis, founder and chief executive officer of online dating consultancy eFlirt Expert, who noted that by overstating their lifestyle, individuals could end up with the wrong type of match.
Speaking to the Huffington Post, she said people also have to guard against complacency.
"Rather than complaining that you're receiving messages from matches you'd rather not meet, search and message some on your own," Ms Davis remarked.
The expert went on to note individuals should always use up-to-date pictures on their profile, rather than outdated snaps where they may be looking better.
If a meeting does take place, it may be a source of frustration for the other person if they feel they have been fooled into a date.
Ms Davis also remarked a profile should act as a snapshot into an individual's life.
