Carey Mulligan marries penpal Marcus Mumford

Getting a penpal can be the start of a long-lasting relationship.

People are able to correspond for as long as they want to before deciding whether or not to meet up.

This friendship can even turn into something more serious, as evidenced by the recent celebrity wedding of Carey Mulligan and Marcus Mumford.

The pair used to be penpals when they were younger and rekindled their relationship after meeting up at a Mumford and Sons gig in 2011.

Mulligan – who recently starred in Shame – tied the knot with Mumford on a farm in Somerset last month and actor Jake Gyllenhaal was among the celebrity attendees at the event.

Guests had to get used to a novel form of transport in the shape of tractors.

"The tractors shipped guests including … Colin Firth around the site. Everyone was warned to look out for cowpats," a source told the Daily Mirror.
