A charity fundraiser has been held in a military mess in Arborfield in Berkshire.
Theresa May – MP for Maidenhead and home secretary – was the special guest at the event, which raised £8,000 for the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF) – The Soldiers' Charity, the Wokingham Times reports.
Ms May gave a talk to the attendees, which took place at Hazebrouck Barracks, the home of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.
The lunch reception was supported by the Greenham Common Trust and Graham Fortune, managing director of Frexienet, who donated wine for the event.
As well as the money collected for ABF, a cheque for £500 was given to 42 Engineer Regiment in recognition of their charitable activities as part of a Tesco-related challenge.
It comes after the South Shields Gazette revealed a special night, which was a sell out, has been put on in Hebburn in aid of the ABF.
