Online dating is an effective way to find a soul mate, it has been suggested.
Marci Rich, writing in the Richmond Times Dispatch, noted that plenty of people who meet on the web go on to have long and loving relationships.
Single soldiers who are interested in finding the perfect partner may want to check out the options open to them on the internet.
Ms Rich found her husband John online and she added she knows a lot of couples who hooked up through the web.
"Everybody is doing it because everybody knows someone who has used online dating to meet someone," said Mark Brooks, a consultant for websites offering this service.
There has also been an increase in the US in the number of 50 plus aged people signing up for portals.
Andrea Bartz and Brenna Ehrlich – writing for CNN – recently noted people should remember to be complimentary when sending an email to a prospective date for the first time.
