A 51-year-old IT technician, who is set to become a grandfather for the first time, is gearing up for a 700-mile canoe trip in aid of Help for Heroes.
David Penk will journey across the country's waterways in support of soldiers and will continue his mission come rain or shine, the BBC reports.
"If it rains, it rains, but you get used to it. I can also turn my canoe upside down and use it as a shelter," he says.
The man – who hails from Haywards Heath in Surrey – is spend his nights outdoors and will be sleeping in a hammock rather than camping in a tent.
His first grandchild is due to be born during the challenge and Mr Penk says he will continue the feat before going home to visit the baby.
Residents in Somerset recently decided to earn money for Help for Heroes by stripping off and posing nude for a local calendar, the Western Gazette reported.
