A week-long fundraising event in Flintshire has managed to pick up thousands of pounds for Help for Heroes.

It was carried out by a chain of frozen food stores and there were a raft of activities to entice individuals to part with their money, the Flintshire Chronicle reports.

Branches in Holywell, Flint, Shotton and Mold participated in the scheme, which is part of Iceland's ambitious target of raising £1 million for the organisation, which aims to help those wounded while on duty.

Mold store manager Chris Williams said: "We raised £450 from entrance fees to the game, the charity chest wax, a bouncy castle and selling raffle tickets and refreshments to spectators."

Owen O'Neil, who manages the Flint premises, observed with £1,300 already collected and counting still to be done, it represents a great effort from the shop and the public.

It was recently revealed Tom Jones has been confirmed as part of the line up performing at the Heroes Concert, which will take place next month at Twickenham Stadium.
