A heroic Belgian shepherd is set to receive the canine equivalent of the Victoria Cross after saving the lives of several British soldiers.

The Daily Mail reported that brave Army search dog Chocolat will likely be presented with the Dickin Medal for discovering a cachet of home-made weapons in a Taliban bomb factory in Afghanistan.

Chocolat made the discovery with his handler, Private Steve Purdy, during a search of a bazaar in Nad’e Ali.

The brave pooch also helped soldiers clear out a safe route when they came upon another set of improvised explosive devices during their searches.

"He is very cheeky but a really good dog, really good at his job. He is also a bit of a character," commented Pte Purdy.

A new autonomous computer network could be another way to help soldiers stay safe while in action.

The technology was developed at Cranfield University and allows one operator to control multiple aerial vehicles, which could provide more accurate results and safer missions.
