This year's Armed Forces Day celebrations are to be hosted by the city of Edinburgh, with plenty of other festivities lined up around the country.

On Saturday June 25th people around the UK will be encouraged to show their support for soldiers by joining in with the special day, the Ministry of Defence (MOD) states.

While a full list of events has not yet been published, it has been revealed there will be a Uniform at Work Day on Wednesday June 22nd.

All service personnel who do not usually wear a uniform on duty will be encouraged to do so in honour of the occasion.

And authorities around the UK will be asked to fly a special flag in the week before the event to highlight the celebrations.

Last year, the MOD revealed more than 305 events took placed to celebrate the annual day and secretary of state for defence Dr Liam Fox said: "As a nation, we have a duty to support our armed forces for all they do for us."
