British troops can walk around Afghanistan feeling proud because the majority of Afghans think they’re work is taking the country in the right direction.

According to a poll commissioned by the BBC, ABC News and German broadcaster ARD, 70 per cent of people believe they are on the right path to a better future, despite the Taliban’s best efforts to wreck things.

That’s an increase of 30 per cent on last year and shows that all the sacrifice made by the brave boys and girls from the British armed forces has been appreciated by those they’re helping.

Also, the locals have begun to take president Karzai to heart, with nearly three quarters saying that they think he is doing a good job as the country’s leader.

The news will come as a boost to Gordon Brown, who recently told the British Forces Broadcasting Service that British troops are doing the right thing in trying to liberate the Afghan people.
