It was in the making since 2011, but the US exit from Afghanistan has not been simple or easy.

After spending close to two decades helping fight against the Taliban, our troops have taken on a new role, helping the vulnerable one last time.

The official account for the US Army tok to Twitter to show off the facilities that have been urgently set up to help those fleeing.

The numbers speak louder than anything else. A single day led to the removal of over 21,600 people, with the total coming up to 63,900. It speaks volumes to the commitment and bravery our troops continue to exhibit with the Taliban standing at the door of the airport, threatening both those fleeing and those of ours still there.

It’s not an easy job to work with refugees right now, and yet our marines have taken on the big risk. The image tweeted by the official account is nothing short of frightening.

And yet they continue to keep spirits up and help those trying to run for their lives.

If anything the Hamid Karzai International Airport had little to not support right now. The Marines have stepped up and taken over Air Traffic Controller duties, and are helping manage every single plane that makes up the runway traffic.

For Afghan civilians who are finding a way to flee, there is nothing but relief.

Our troops continue to go above and beyond the call of duty. They are at great risk even now, given how small the number of men and women left on this mission is. The men and women who wear these uniforms have made up two decades of effort in Afghanistan, and despite the pullback, that effort continues for the people of the country.

May god give them strength.
