The best friend of a soldier who was killed in action in Afghanistan has pledged to run a gruelling race to honour him.
Former serviceman David Henry was close friends with Corporal Lee Brownson before he died on foot patrol in Helmand Province and will now run the Brighton Marathon on April 18th to raise money for Help For Heroes, the Northern Echo reported.
Mr Henry, from Brandon, County Durham, was part of 3rd Battalion, The Rifles, with Corporal Brownson, 30 before leaving the forces after ten years of service.
He told the newspaper: "I decided to do the marathon as soon as I got back, and thought this would be a good way to raise money for Help For Heroes."
Meanwhile, Mal Smith, 57, a former Royal Engineer from Hertfordshire, will soon take part in a gruelling race in Egypt before returning to run the London Marathon for charity.
