People should not be afraid to give online dating a go in their pursuit of the perfect partner.

In this modern age of internet-based communication, many individuals find love through the web.

One thing that adults need to be aware of is, however, that it is unlikely everyone will fall for the first person they decide to meet up with and so they need to be prepared to handle a bit of rejection.

Dulcie Pearce, a writer for the Sun, observed the medium has worked well for her as she has been dating a man for the past two months.

"I'd love to believe that fate, rather than a computer, had put me together with the one. But sometimes you have to take matters into your own hands," she added.

Ms Pearce added although initially apprehensive about giving online dating a go, she is now very happy that she decided to do so.

Single soldiers looking for love on the internet may be buoyed by the experience of one couple.

Priscilla and Ted told the Vancouver Observer that they chose to give online dating a go for different reasons, but are very happy with the result.

After initially meeting up in 2008, the pair are now married and looking forward to a long and happy life with each other.

When asked about her decision to give the web a go, Priscilla stated: "I'm glad I gave it a chance. I had … apprehensions at first, but it ended up being a good judgment call."

On the other hand, her husband remarked although he thought it might be seen as "goofy", his busy lifestyle convinced him that it was worth a shot.

It comes after Peter Spalton, founder of thedatingdoctor.co.uk, said taking to the web to find a partner is a good way to improve confidence.

People can find love through online dating sites if the experience of one woman is anything to go by.

Michelle Maslin has told the Irish Examiner about how she found her perfect partner on the web and so army penpals should keep looking.

After meeting her future husband Paul five-and-a-half years ago, the couple tied the knot in April of this year.

"We both fancied each other from [the] beginning so that first meeting in the flesh does really tell you whether there is chemistry between you or not," Ms Maslin observed.

She added Paul was exactly how he had described himself in his profile – a tall, dark and handsome Australian.

According to the new provider, some 500,000 singletons in the country have taken to their computers in an effort to find love.

Those who are new to online dating may want to speak to people on the phone before deciding whether or not to meet them.
