Most people will be familiar with the story of Noah's Ark.

The vessel was used by Noah to save himself, his family and a remnant of all the world's animals in the Book of Genesis.

Now, an eccentric Dutch millionaire has decided he likes the idea of the ship so much that he has built his own version.

Costing around £4 million and taking over fours years to create, the craft has finally been opened up to members of the public so they can have a look at it.

Designer Johan Huibers has moored the craft in the Merwede River, Dordrecht, after 50 people helped to construct it.

"The wood is Swedish pine, because that's the closest we think to the resin wood God ordered Noah to use in the Bible. The animals are plastic and come from the Philippines," Mr Huibers told AFP.

There is no doubting that the gigantic 137m by 21m ark is a site to behold and I'm sure plenty of people will flock to see it.
