aircraft &#8216;completes first Afghanistan mission&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new RAF C-17 aircraft has delivered supplies to the front line in Afghanistan and returned from its first operational mission.<br><br>It took rifle ammunition, missiles and air conditioning units to Camp Bastion and is capable of transporting loads of up to 70 tonnes.<br><br>Wing Commander David Manning of the 99 Squadron welcomed the new craft and said it was &quot;rewarding&quot; to know the supplies were being delivered to troops.<br><br>Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton added: &quot;The RAF's seventh aircraft brings added flexibility and increased capability to our extremely hardworking air transport fleet.<br><br>&quot;I am immensely proud of the outstanding contribution.&quot;<br><br>David Cameron unveiled the multi-million pound vehicle in January this year.<br><br>It is capable of delivering loads to remote airfields that have short and narrow runways, using night-vision goggles to do so in darkness.<br><br>The RAF is currently assisting with the development of the new Joint Strike Fighter and considering options to replace the Tornado and Harrier
