The war in Afghanistan has evolved from one kind of bad to another, but what puts us at ease is knowing that our men and women in uniform are doing their best to keep the enemy at bay.\n\n\n\nMore than 1,000 UK troop are in the field and helping support Afghan action against ISIS. The tussle between the Taliban and the Afghanistan government has helped ISIS creep in and grab territory for itself. Just a few years ago, the war was on an equal footing, but the hard work from our forces has paid off and pushed the enemy back.\n\nIt is important to quell the threat of ISIS so that Afghan soil cannot be used to plan and execute terror attacks around the globe. The support that our military personnel offer has helped Afghan security forces gain an edge over the enemy – and it is helping keep our country and our allies safe.\n\nThe threat of ISIS has been around for around four years now, and the group has trained many actors, including terrorist Khalid Masood who was behind the 2017 Westminster Bridge attack. While the terrorist group had amassed around 4,000 men at one point, that number has since been brought down to just 1,000.\n\nThe dedication to the cause shown by our forces is undeniable. And their duty is not an easy one. Around 456 British troops have been killed in active duty while in Afghanistan. This hasn’t stopped many from going back for another round after their deployment has ended.\n\nAfghanistan’s government is expected to reach some kind of agreement with the Taliban so that the country can secure peace for itself. But till it manages to do so, we can rest easy knowing that our capable soldiers are helping fence the enemy out.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
