{"id":23,"date":"2009-12-15T17:18:57","date_gmt":"2009-12-15T17:18:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forcespenpals.net\/p=?23"},"modified":"2009-12-15T17:18:57","modified_gmt":"2009-12-15T17:18:57","slug":"mod-to-boost-helicopter-fleet-with-new-chinooks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forcespenpals.net\/us\/news\/mod-to-boost-helicopter-fleet-with-new-chinooks\/","title":{"rendered":"MoD to boost helicopter fleet with new Chinooks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced it is to boost the UK&rsquo;s military helicopter fleet with 22 new Chinook helicopters.<br><br>Defence secretary Bob Ainsworth revealed that the first ten choppers will roll off the production line in 2012 and be finished 12 months later, giving troops in Afghanistan beefier air support.<br><br>It will take the Chinook collection to 70 airframes and is part of the MoD&rsquo;s wider Future Helicopter Strategy.<br><br>Mr Ainsworth said that soldiers out in Afghanistan have made it clear the choppers are absolutely essential.<br><br>&quot;Our forces on the frontline in Afghanistan repeatedly tell me that Chinook are indispensible on operations.
