A soldier mum has been reunited with her two-year-old son after completing a six-month tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Corporal Phillipa Noble greeted little Alfie while still dressed in her army gear and burst into tears upon being reunited with the toddler, the Daily Mail reports.

However, corporal Noble was not the only soldier reunited with her nearest and dearest after spending half a year on the frontline in Helmand province.

Some 200 members of the 1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery returned home to a hero’s welcome in Wiltshire, with loyal supporters cheering and waving flags at the brave soldiers who played a major part in Operation Moshterak.

Prince Charles recently made a surprise trip to Afghanistan in the hope of boosting morale among troops serving on the frontline.

He explained: "I am thrilled to have got here at last because I just wanted to see the kind of conditions they were in and also to try to generally take an interest and encourage."
