Prince William has visited troops in Afghanistan to mark Remembrance Sunday.

The Royal flew over to the country to attend a service along with 2,500 members of the Armed Forces.

He laid a wreath at the gathering – which took place at Camp Bastion – while troops were surprised and delighted to see the RAF Search and Rescue helicopter pilot after only learning of his visit 15 minutes before he arrived.

Sergeant Nick Rodgers, who serves with Brigade Reconnaissance Force, 16 Air Assault Brigade, said: "To be honest, he would rather be out fighting with us so it's good to see him here."

The soldier added the tribute was a big occasion all round and noted the troops have had to stay focused on the job at hand while participating in the event.

Officers from the North Yorkshire Police recently raised £2,309 for the Help for Heroes foundation after they competed against a team from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in a charity football match.
