David Beckham has paid tribute to the contribution the armed forces make for Britain.

The global star, speaking at the Sun's Millies 2010 awards – which recognises the efforts put in by the military over the last year – said British troops perform "unbelievable work" for the nation.

Beckham, who brought his son Brooklyn along to the ceremony, said he was incredibly touched by the event, especially when presenting an award to Denny Wise – the man who set up the Forces Children's Trust.

The footballer noted: "They sacrifice a huge amount for themselves and their families. To come here and celebrate what they do is ridiculously important."

Also in attendance at the star-studded bash were Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, as well as Rio Ferdinand, Cesc Fabregas and Jeremy Clarkson.

A team of 40 rowers from Scarborough Sub Aqua Club recently raised money for the Help for Heroes charity by rowing between Scarborough and Whitby, Scarborough Evening News reported.
