A pair of brave soldiers have been awarded with a posthumous recognition of their efforts on the frontline in Afghanistan.

The families of Private Richard Hunt and Private James Prosser received the Elizabeth Crosses on behalf of the pair – who served with The Second Battalion The Royal Welsh – before their comrades marched through Brecon to mark the completion of their eight-month tour of duty, the South Wales Argus reports.

Private Hunt’s mother Sarah said: "It’s a very emotional day but also a proud one. We accepted the medal on behalf of Richard and are very, very proud of him and all the rest of A Company."

Mrs Hunt’s family has now helped to raise £12,000 for the Richard Hunt foundation, which was launched in November 2009 to help wounded members of the armed forces.

Elsewhere, members of 3rd Battalion The Rifles recently enjoyed a hero’s welcome in Edinburgh after returning from a six-month tour of duty on the frontline in the Helmand province region of Afghanistan.
