An MP has welcomed the launch of a new lottery-funded project – Forces in Mind – that is hoped to ease the transition process for soldiers moving from military to civilian life.
Jenny Willott, MP for Cardiff Central, says: "With more and more troops returning home each year after facing extremely difficult conditions in Iraq and Afghanistan, this new funding project could not be more important."
The £35 million worth of funding will be used to help former soldiers who have found returning from combat a difficult process, working alongside the Royal British Legion and the Help for Heroes charity.
Ms Willott goes on to state that the launch of the Forces in Mind scheme is an "excellent" use of National Lottery money.
On a recent visit to Afghanistan, prime minister Gordon Brown commended UK soldiers for their "courage, professionalism and dedication".
