Devon fire crews are to take part in a range of fundraising activities to raise money for Help for Heroes.

Engines in Plymouth will also be adorned with the badge of the armed forces charity to raise awareness of its aims.

Steve West, the fire service's area commander, noted that the decision to support Help for Heroes was made due to the strong military history of the region.

Speaking to BBC News, he said: "Some of our staff have just come back from Afghanistan and we have one member of staff out there at the moment."

Stephen Hodder, regional army commander, added that it is a "fantastic demonstration" of support for the charity, noting the engines do not usually feature any badges.

Lancashire Police recently announced that it has handed over a cheque for more than £1,000 after 12 months of fundraising activity by officers in aid of Help for Heroes.
