More than £3,500 has been raised for Help for Heroes thanks to a group of men who cycled more than 260 miles around the UK.

The members had little experience with cycling, but decided to take on the challenge in honour of the charity, the Derbyshire Times reports.

Norman Fazackerley led the team of six people from Scotland to Somercotes, where the head quarters of their employer the NHS Supply Chain is based.

The group leader was a soldier for 24 years himself and says the others all have a connection with the armed forces.

"It's obviously close to my heart and we've supported it. It's a good cause and you can't do enough for the people who are serving and those who come home and need care and attention," Mr Fazackerley explains.

His eldest son is currently in the RAF and has been on a number of tours to Afghanistan.

Help for Heroes was set up in 2007 to aid those who have been injured on duty.
