Sheffield residents wishing to show how much they support soldiers<\/a> gathered for a fundraising event in memory of a troop who died on duty.<\/p>\n

Cheryl Routledge planned a poker tournament in honour of her son Corporal Liam Riley and all the proceeds went to Help for Heroes, the Star reports.<\/p>\n

Those who attended the event raised £24,000 in just one night and Ms Routledge says the support she has received is "simply staggering".<\/p>\n

She now plans to continue the Dusk Till Dawn fundraising efforts with another poker tournament next year and hopes to reach a £45,000 target.<\/p>\n

Chief executive of Help for Heroes Bryn Parry – who set up the charity in 2007 – comments: "This event is a wonderful example of people having a good idea, rallying support and having a great deal of fun while they raise money for a wonderful cause."<\/p>\n

He thanked Corporal Liam Riley's family for all their efforts that help the organisation to carry out its work.<\/p>\n
