A bowling club in West Norfolk has shown its support for soldiers by donating its last-remaining funds to Help for Heroes.

South Wootton Swan Bowls Club has now closed down, but chose to give the final £700 in its bank account to the charity, Lynn News reports.

Ex-president of the association Phil Allen attended the ceremony and handed over the cheque to Chris Steele from Help for Heroes.

The money had been generated thanks to a sale at the club, which saw machinery and other equipment traded for funds.

It follows a donation from local former Royal Norfolk Regiment policeman Michael Lennon, who sold cartoons and items to raise money for the charity, the news source adds.

A more unusual lot is being used to earn finance for Help for Heroes, as a young boy hosting a raffle was recently given a vintage Rolls Royce to offer as a prize, the BBC reported.

Nathan McMaster from Leyland hopes the £14,000 motor will draw in the crowds and encourage people to buy more tickets.
