A military-themed pub in Nottingham has chosen to help injured soldiers through the money it generates from fundraising activities.

The Nottingham Post reports that the Poppy and Pint – which is adorned with army banners and other memorabilia – selected Help for Heroes, as well as the British Legion, as its charity of choice.

It is to raise funds for the two organisations for as long as soldiers remain fighting in Afghanistan.

Secretary of the Nottingham branch of the Campaign for Real Ale Andrew Ludlow said: "This already feels like a vibrant pub. It has a comfortable, coming-home feel to it."

Legion member Ken Wilkins noted the owners of the pub are trying to keep the building, which used to be home to the British Legion-affiliated Rutland Sports and Social Club, as military as they can.

The Sussex Express recently reported that local GP Dr Herry Ashby is to shave his beard off – which he has sported for 40 years – to raise cash for Help for Heroes.
