An Army medic from East Lanchashire has revealed that taking up a role in the military is the best decision he has ever made.

Private Matt Riley, who is currently serving with the UK Joint Force Medical Group as a combat medical technician, told the Lancashire Telegraph that he has seen a lot while in Afghanistan and that the experience has been an amazing one.

While danger is never far away, the fact that he is saving the lives of soldiers injured in combat is a massive reward and something which makes him extremely proud.

"I never considered a military career until about two years ago. It’s the best thing I’ve done because it gives me the opportunity to do the job I wanted to do, play sports and socialise a lot," he told the newspaper.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph recently, corporal Clare Waters, a district nurse from Brentwood, Essex, and captain Angus Wilson, a doctor from St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London, said working in Afghanistan is very rewarding and a life-changing experience.
