A solider is urging members of the public to support him in a fundraising attempt to assist an injured colleague.

Jim Panniers has just completed a six-month tour of Afghanistan, during which time his fellow member of the armed forces Lance Corporal Josh Boggi lost both legs and an arm, the Hereford Times reports.

Mr Panniers and others are trying to collect money to assist the injured troop and some have already completed a challenge where they ran the equivalent of nine marathons in nine days.

He now wants others to show their support for soldiers by contributing to the efforts.

Speaking about his return to the UK, the troop said: "Coming back home you have to make a conscious effort to take a step back.

"You have to ease your way back into life."

The Birmingham Mail recently revealed a blind man and his friends are taking on a 50-mile charity tandem bike ride in honour of Help for Heroes.
