A sailor from Chinnor who has been in the armed forces for 24 years has dedicated his spare time to raising money for Help for Heroes, in all generating over £50,000 for the charity.

Andy Gibbs' latest venture has taken him on a walk from London's Wembley Stadium to Cardiff's Millennium Stadium – a journey of 168 miles – in just one week, while selling charity wristbands along the way, the Henley Standard reports.

He was accompanied on this particular trip with fellow sailors Buster Brown and David Chandler, followed behind by friends and family in a support car.

"In 2008, one of our friends lost someone in Afghanistan and so we walked across Scotland and raised £13,500 for Help for Heroes … I got the bug," Mr Gibbs remarked.

Earlier this week, the charity benefited from a donation of four vehicles by Vauxhall to be used in fundraising events, with a Movano van expected to come in useful for heading to air shows and moving large boxes.
