A sailor plans to show his support for the troops by walking 166 miles from Wembley Stadium to Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

Warrant Officer Dave Chandler has embarked upon the hike and will carry the official match football for Saturday's (March 26th) contest between Wales and England, the Southend Standard reports.

Royal Navy Petty Officers Andy Gibbs and Robert Brown will join the sailor on his mission, which is in aid of Help for Heroes.

"We're planning to cover about 38 miles a day and will be stopping at Henley on Thames, Swindon, Cheltenham and other places to rest," Mr Chandler said.

He hopes to raise £15,000 for the charity and revealed all three participants know members of the armed forces who have been injured while serving on the front line.

The trio have set off on their expedition and hope to make it in time for the European Championship qualifying match on Saturday.
