tackles sporting challenges for charity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An ex-soldier is set to take on a set of gruelling challenges this year in aid of Help for Heroes.<\/p>\n<p>Richard Porter is now employed as a bus driver but previously held the role of army sergeant, the Nottingham Post explains.<\/p>\n<p>He and his friend are preparing to cover more than 1,000 miles in their sporting tasts, which include a marathon, two triathlons, an endurance obstacle course, a bike ride from John O'Groats to Land's End and a 75-mile cycle sprint.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Porter said: &quot;Friends of mine are going to Afghanistan in November this year, which was more coincidental than planned, but it does make it a little bit more poignant.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>He aims to raise some &pound;50,000 for Help for Heroes over the next 15 years, when he will continue with his charity challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Another member of the armed forces who is helping the charity is Michael Collins, who plans to raise funds
