Well-known soap stars showed their support for the nation's soldiers during a charity football match in aid of Help for Heroes.<\/p>\n
Coronation Steeet stars Jack P Shepherd – who plays David Platt – and Ryan Thomas – known for his role as Jason Grimshaw – were among the celebs who took to the pitch over the weekend, the Yorkshire Post reports.<\/p>\n
Other participants include Sam Aston and Alan Hasall, who play Chesney Brown and Tyrone Dobbs respectively.<\/p>\n
They aimed to raise £2,000 for Help for Heroes and were pitted against a team from the armed forces at the event in Leeds.<\/p>\n
Students from Leeds Metropolitan University organised the event at Garforth Town FC, where Emmerdale star Adam Thomas and The Royle Family's Ralph Little also joined the line-up.<\/p>\n
Coronation Street has shed some light on life as a soldier, as character Gary Windass – played by Mickey North – returned to the street following a stint in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
