An aircraft engineer is aiming to raise some £200,000 for Help for Heroes, which he believes to be a very worthy cause.

Staff sergeant Chris Hare from Bury St Edmunds told the Bury Free Press he and seven other servicemen will climb Mount Everest in their fundraising efforts.

He said: "Help for Heroes is a great cause and most of us have seen how it can help injured soldiers get through some hard times."

And it is not just Everest that the group will tackle, as a range of events are planned to raise the £200,000 target.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, Hadrian's Wall three-day cycle challenge and the National Three Peaks Challenge are among the activities being tackled by the current and former servicemen.

A fundraising team from Bristol have also come up with a range of innovative solutions – such as dressing in black-tie outfits and delivering bacon sandwiches – to raise money for the charity, Bristol 24 recently reported.
