Yet another crisis that the British military is taking head on. According to a government release, the current lack of petrol caused by a lack of truck drivers is finally being addressed. The issue resulted in panic buying and forced officials to try and ‘import’ truck drivers, but a quicker solution came in terms of service personnel stepping in to fill the gaps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Almost 200 military tanker personnel, 100 of which are drivers, will be deployed from Monday to provide temporary support as part of the government’s wider action to further relieve pressure on petrol stations and address the shortage of HGV drivers,” the news release said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The crisis has left many reeling, despite there being no actual shortage of fuel in the country. The two hundred tanker personnel being added to the mix will help speedily resolve the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The government has taken decisive action to tackle the short-term disruption to our supply chains, and in particular the flow of fuel to forecourts,” according to minister Steven Barclay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We are now seeing the impact of these interventions with more fuel being delivered to forecourts than sold and, if people continue to revert to their normal buying patterns, we will see smaller queues and prevent petrol stations closing,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“As an extra precaution, we’ve put the extra drivers on. The situation has been improving now for I think over a week every day… it is getting better and as demand settles back to more normal levels the strong expectation is things will resolve themselves,” Finance minister Rishi Sunak said while speaking to the media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While speaking at a conservative party event, Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said that the army will continue to sustain operations for as long as needed. The situation will be brought back to “equilibrium” soon, and the military will do its utmost best to resolve the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also informed that defence staff will be looking into bringing on board new drivers by providing training to those chosen from the thousands who are now applying for the job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Just this year, service personnel have taken on several different roles that don’t particularly fall under their ambit, executing each job with great care and expertise.
