His endeavours earned him a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&ldquo;It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our dear father, Captain Sir Tom Moore,&rdquo; his family announced in a statement to PA Media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&ldquo;The last year of our father&rsquo;s life was nothing short of remarkable. He was rejuvenated and experienced things he&rsquo;d only ever dreamed of. Whilst he&rsquo;d been in so many hearts for just a brief time, he was an incredible father and grandfather, and he will stay alive in our hearts forever.&rdquo;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We&rsquo;re so sad to hear that <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/captaintommoore?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@captaintommoore<\/a> &mdash; who raised almost &pound;33 million for NHS charities &mdash; has died aged 100. It is a difficult time for us all. The virus has claimed more than 100,000 lives in the country. Captain Tom started his fight against Covid-19 hoping to raise just &pound;1,000. He ended up going beyond his goals.
