A school is edging closer to its £2,500 Help for Heroes fundraising target following the success of a cake sale.

Pupils at Charles Darwin School in Biggin Hill organised the baking extravaganza, collecting £37 in the process, the News Shopper reports.

The charitable youngsters – Denny Gapp, Max Fielder and Zac Holton – were initially set a task for a citizenship lesson but decided to incorporate the challenge into a fundraising scheme for brave soldiers injured while fighting for their country.

It means year eight pupils at the educational facility have now collected £1,804.50 for the Help for Heroes cause.

And this total has been amassed over just a matter of months, as the kids only began their money raising efforts back in September.

Meanwhile, students and staff at Colchester Institute recently generated around £500 for Help for Heroes thanks to numerous activities – including 15 members of the workforce taking part in a special boot camp challenge, the Daily Gazette reported.
