Heroic soldiers currently serving in Afghanistan have been treated to one of the hottest gadgets of the year.

The Sun teamed up with Best Buy UK and shipped out ten iPads to servicemen and women battling on the front line.

It noted that it wanted the soldiers to have the devices so that they can keep abreast of all the goings on back home.

Trooper Joseph Rogers of the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment said he thinks the items are cool.

The 20-year-old explained: "It was a huge surprise and a nice Christmas present."

Admitting he is missing his family back in Somerset over the festive season, Mr Rodgers said: "I'm doing a really interesting job and working with a great bunch of guys."

This Is Gloucestershire recently reported that 14-year-old Fran Ball from Cheltenham College has recorded a song entitled Hey Soldier in an effort to raise money for the Help for Heroes charity.
