A blind swimmer is to complete 64 lengths of his local pool in an effort to generate funds for a charity that serves injured soldiers.

The 51-year-old said he will rely on peripheral vision to ensure he completes the challenge, with proceeds being donated to Help for Heroes, the Oxford Mail reports.

Mr Breckenridge stated he has been a fan of swimming since he was a small child and noted his father used to serve in the army.

He observed: "Having arthritis and swollen joints as well as my blindness, the feeling of weightlessness and liberation it gives me is fabulous."

The task – which is taking place on December 23rd – will hopefully be finished in around two hours, Mr Breckenridge added.

And Help for Heroes should receive a donation from a team of RAF Police and their dogs as they planned to head off on a sponsored march between Tedworth House in Tidworth to RAF Lyneham.
