Online dating could be the ideal place for single soldiers to find a lover as the medium is becoming increasingly popular among younger people, it has been suggested.

Writing for the Spectator, James Silvernale claimed technological advances have made it increasingly easy for today's generation to make an acquaintance without the need of a formal introduction.

The expert stated the younger crowd has taken to internet courtship in an informal realm – with the idea being to connect with another person more than to simply sleep with them.

He explained: "If you think about it, you probably learn more about potential dating prospects from their personal page than from a drunken conversation at the bar."

Individuals pondering whether to try out the medium should therefore jump in and get their feet wet, Mr Silvernale added.

In a recent article for the Surrey Comet, Felicity Fox advised a proactive approach to online dating is the best way people can get in contact with those they most desire.
