Britain's synchronised swimmers have taken time out from their normal training routines to raise money for the Help for Heroes charity and the Rushmoor Mallards Disability Group.

A total of £4,000 was raised for the good causes by Tom Daley and his colleagues, who recently returned from the Commonwealth Games in Delhi with a number of medals.

The swimmers are based at the Army base in Aldershot and their fundraising efforts involved taking to the pool in combat uniforms as part of the Splash for Cash appeal.

Links already exist between the team and the Rushmoor Mallards, which it runs a poll session for every Friday night.

Jenna Randall, who won two silver medals in India, said: "We had a fantastic day and raised a tremendous amount of money. We are splitting the money between two very worthy charities."

Other recent fundraising events include a Jive dance at Waterlooville Community Centre, the Portsmouth News reported earlier this month.

It raised over £600 for Help for Heroes.
